Trauma Risk Management (TRiM) Training
Practitioner Course (2-2.5 days)
The TRiM Practitioner course takes provides someone with no specialist medical or psychological knowledge with the knowledge and skills to become a TRiM Practitioner. TRiM Practitioners can work to look after small groups of personnel who may be at risk of developing psychological distress after traumatic events. The course is skills-based and is backed up by up a series of lectures which covers the relevant theory which underpins the skills taught.  Instruction usually takes place in at the client’s own facility and all books and training materials are included. The courses are provided for up to 8 people with one March on Stress instructor or up to 18 people with two March on Stress instructors.

TRiM Team Leader Course (2 days)
This course provides TRiM Practitioners with the necessary skills and knowledge to allow them to function as a TRiM team leader. The course covers the theory in more detail and builds upon the risk assessment and briefing skills learnt during their Practitioners course. TRiM team leaders can manage the psychological aspects of substantial incidents, including the planning and leading of one to one and group risk assessments. Team leaders also play a key role in enabling organisations to plan an organisation’s entire post incident psychological response plan. In order to attend a team leader course, individuals will have to have successfully attended a Practitioner level course and ideally worked as a TRiM practitioner on a number of occasions. Team leader courses are usually run for up to 12 people at a time.

TRiM Practitioner Assessment Day (1 day)
Whilst March on Stress will provide personnel who have completed Practitioner level TRiM training with an attendance certificate, some organisations require certificates of competency rather than attendance. Where such a certificate is required, March on Stress will carry out one to one assessments of Practitioner course attendees in order to assess competence; a pass or fail will result from the assessment. Those who pass will be issued with a certificate of competence which lasts two years at which point they will need to successfully attend a refresher training course.

TRiM Practitioner Refresher Course (half to 1 day)

Although all Practitioner course attendees will receive a comprehensive book which details how the TRiM system works, in order to remain “in date” it is suggested that they attend a refresher training course every two years. Those who require their competence certificates to remain in date must do so. Refresher training can be provided by suitably experienced TRiM team leaders or March on Stress can provide the training. The length of the training depends on the number of people attending the course.

Post Assignment Interviewing Training (1 day plus a competency assessment)

Whilst TRiM is an excellent set of psychological tools that foster organisational resilience after traumatic events, some employers routinely send their staff to work in high threat locations for extended periods of time. Whilst the TRiM process can usefully to assist with potentially traumatic experiences encountered in such locations, it may be that individuals are not part of a team that have a TRiM capability or even if they are part of a larger, TRiM-aware, team then they may still have been exposed to highly unpleasant stressors during their time away which are not necessarily ones that TRiM would deal with. Examples of such stressors include prolonged threats of injury or death experienced whilst working in highly dangerous areas, dealing with or witnessing the results of extreme poverty in the local population and having to comply with ‘strange’ cultural practices which some countries enforce. March on Stress Ltd can provide your TRiM practitioners with an extra day of training which allows them to carry out one to one interviews with those who have returned from a highly challenging role to ascertain how best their organisation can support their transition back to a more “ordinary” position. Subsequent to the one day training, all course attendees have to attend a one to one assessment which will be scored by a March on Stress trainer. Those who pass the assessment will be given certificates of competency.

Other Training

Managerial Trauma Awareness Training (half to one day)

This package aims to give managers sufficient awareness of psychological trauma to enable them to prepare and support their staff when sending them to hostile environments. The half day package aims to engender awareness of the relevant issues related to traumatic stress, whereas the one day package focuses more on skills acquisition (active listening, trauma risk awareness) aiming to ‘skill up’ managers to spot traumatic stress problems in those that they manage.

Transitional (Pre-Travel and Post-Deployment) Mental Health Training
March On Stress Ltd recognise that your people may travel widely to countries where the might encounter a wide range of potentially traumatic situations including political unrest or witnessing/being involved in a challenging incident.  We can provide pre-travel mental health training to prepare your personnel how to deal with the potentially traumatic situations they might experience should a ‘worst case’ scenario become a reality.  Similarly, post travel mental health briefings can be undertaken with personnel that have returned from a trip or an assignment and aim to allow any latent issues to be dealt with in a structured and empathetic manner. We can also train your TRiM practitioners/team leaders to carry out these lectures. March on Stress understands that having to deal with transitions between locations and roles can be a challenge which most people can navigate in time. Our transitional mental health training aims to properly prepare people for the dealing challenges they may face as they move between roles or locations.
